Hi! I'm Kirstie. I'm an AfN registered Nutritionist with a PhD in nutrition and a BSc in Public Health Nutrition, both from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. Having completed a further 3 years of study at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION), I am also a BANT and CNHC registered Nutritional Therapist. I recently completed a PGCE in Higher Education to support my academic role, and I am currently undertaking a Masters degree with the University of Sheffield in Neuroscience and Neurodegeneration, which focuses specifically on Parkinson's Disease, Huntingdon's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Dementia. 

I have been working in both clinical and educational settings since 2001, working predominantly with women who are preparing for pregnancy, and with children, adolescents, and young adults. 

 

My main areas of interest clinically are:

  • General nutrition education

  • Pregnancy support

  • Weaning

  • Early years nutrition

  • Meal plan support

  • Managing picky eating

  • Gut health and related conditions

  • Mental wellness and mental health disorders

  • Disordered eating/ARFID

  • Neurodegenerative health 

  • Immune health including autoimmunity, allergy and intolerance

  • Weight management

  • Health coaching

In addition to my clinical work, I am the Module Coordinator for the Functional Nutrition, Gastrointestinal Health and Detoxification, and Immune Health modules on the UK's first Graduate Diploma in Integrative and Functional Nutrition, delivered by the renowned Institute for Optimum Nutrition (www.ion.ac.uk), in collaboration with Portsmouth University. I also teach clinical practice and paediatric nutrition on the BSc programme and at other academic institutes in the UK. I have a PGCE in Higher Education from the University of London. I am a member of the Editorial Board for the Nutritional Medicine Institute and Journal (www.nmi.health).

I also have over 20 years of experience in developing and delivering a wide range of nutrition and lifestyle interventions, plus educational, research-focused, and advisory roles for numerous charities, NGO and Government entities both in the UK and internationally. I am the lead for Public Health Nutrition at Real World Health (www.realworldhealth.net).  I have also worked as a Nutritionist and Health Coach for Second Nature, a digital health and behaviour change programme, since 2018 (www.secondnature.io).
